- Brief background
My name is Amina and I am half Nigerian, half English. I was born and brought up in London, but have had an interest in Nigeria since I was a teenager.
- What is Nigeria like?
I really like Nigeria because it’s such a vast and complex country so there’s so much to learn.
- What has been your favorite experience in Nigeria so far?
My favourite experience in Nigeria is travelling by speed boat to the beach from Lagos Island. I love water and anything that gets me close to the sea is a win for me!
- What are your top 5 recommendations of things to do or see in Nigeria?
My favourite place so far is Kaduna, because it’s a beautiful town. I also really like the durbar festival in Zaria. I think the beaches in Badagry are amazing. I also like chilling at Pop Beach Club on Ilashe. I like walking around Lagos Island, because I feel like I’m transported to another world compared to Island life.
I really like Nigerian food. My favorite is Egusi soup and amala or pounded yam. I also really like ewa agoyin and yam pottage.
My favourite coffee hang out is Cafe Neo on Akin Adesola.
- If someone is visiting Nigeria for a couple of days, where should they go?
I think Lagos Island is a good place to walk around and take in city life. I also think it’s a must to visit the beach!
- Any hidden gems that you think haven’t been discovered yet?
Sun Tan beach in Badagry!!
- What is security like?
I don’t think security is a big problem in Nigeria. I think it’s important to take the same precautions one would in any large city in any country.
- Word of advice for visitors
I think Lagos has a poor reputation compared to the reality, so I would urge people to come and experience it for themselves!
- Any other thing to add?
