While Abuja may have a lot of parks, this is definitely the most famous of them all. It’s the largest public park in Abuja and is a favorite among people for events, picnics, long strolls through the park, photo shoots etc.
The park is said to have been designed by an Italian architect – Manfredi Nicoletti and commissioned by the Queen of England in 2003.
While the park is aesthetically pleasing with a lot of greenery, it doesn’t have much else to offer. It has a small play area for kids to keep them busy while their parents or carers picnic nearby.
There’s a river running through the park and this apparently divides the park into 2.
While there’s not a lot to do, the 80 acres is a welcome addition to the urban scene of Abuja. A few facilities should be added to the park but not too much to take away from its serenity. A snack stand would great and maybe more park benches.
So if you’re looking for a way to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon or evening, pack a picnic basket, grab a book, a bottle of wine and head to Millennium park.
