Is That A Double Burger?
A new burger restaurant came on the scene and instagrammers/bloggers couldn’t seem to get enough of it.
The space looked great from pictures and it just had a way of making you want to visit. It also had shake shack vibes so you could tell the owner was probably someone in love with the American food outlet.
One thing everyone kept mentioning however, was the price point especially as fries don’t automatically come with the burger.
Considering I’m in Ikeja on most days, I drove past and decided to stop by and check what all the fuss was about.
Just like the pictures shown on social media, Burg is made up of graffiti, picture boards, blackboards and a ‘secret garden’ with games and fairy lights.
You could also tell the staff were used to people taking multiple pictures and videos because they didn’t bat an eyelid as I snapped away.
One thing that struck me however was how empty inside was. There were 2 people in the garden but that was it. I had noticed the emptiness in people’s pictures/stories and now I’m wondering if we all go at the wrong time?
Anyway I finally got around to looking at the menu and the prices should definitely be for combos not just the burgers.
While pondering on my order, I met the owner and we struck up a conversation on why they currently don’t offer delivery services. He mentioned that their burgers are best eaten fresh on the spot (I should have listened to him) and that till he figured out how to keep the quality it would remain that way.
I finally settled for the ‘double burg og‘ and an ‘Oreo nut‘ milkshake (without the nuts) to go.
This cost N8,000 and to be honest I felt this was a bit much as I paid and collected the restaurant pager/beeper.
The burger didn’t take too long to get ready as before I knew it my pager was already beeping. I happily grabbed my food and went on my merry way. I bumped into an unraveller that I hadn’t seen in ages and she also expressed concerns about the prices.
While heading home, I had my Oreo milkshake and I absolutely loved it. It’s very hard to find places that make them well in Lagos so this made me happy. I couldn’t wait to get home and dig into my burger.
After braving the traffic, I got home and looked at my burger. I was definitely shocked by the size. I mean it looked more like a small burger as opposed to the double I paid for (or am I just greedy?).
I opened up the burger and it was a mess. The melted cheese had run out and it was just all over the place. I figured this was what the owner meant by the burgers don’t keep.
The burger tasted ok and to be honest I wasn’t sure if it was because I had taken it home or that’s just what it is.
I was left a bit disappointed with the size and taste considering the price point and I’m not sure it was worth it.
Perhaps I might need to go back, try a different burger and eat it in the restaurant.
If you’ve been to burg, what did you think?
