Restaurant of The Week – De Chills Hind

I like the idea of secret locations. There’s some thing mysterious and dare I say cool about it. However, I think the location of a secret restaurant could be much better than this.

De Chills Hind is located behind a store called Remarkable in Surulere, Lagos. To get in there’s a gate at the side which takes you to the back.

The most amusing part of it for me is, despite the lack of visual appeal in front, the place gets quite a lot of visitors or maybe it had to do with the fact that it was salsa night when I went.

De chills has a laid back feel to it and is actually perfect for grabbing a drink or two after work. However it could do with a little bit of sprucing up.

The staff are definitely friendly but are probably overwhelmed because their focus was all about the place. Felt like I had to keep reminding them to attend to my table. They even forgot to bring something that was ordered but c’est la vie.

The menu had quite a bit to offer but I was disappointed when two things I wanted weren’t available. I ended up getting the Chicken ala king and my friend got peppered chicken, chips and chicken pepper soup. Presentation is definitely not their strong point because while the food was decent, it should also look appealing. Besides the bread that came with the pepper soup looked stale.

Like I said earlier, the chicken was quite nice and my friend enjoyed the pepper soup. Thought it was filling and ended up taking home the peppered chicken.

After our meal, we just sat around enjoying the music and watching people salsa. That my friends, was the best part of the evening. It was simply amazing. For me I enjoyed the salsa and the atmosphere so much more than the food.

Everyone was having fun and letting down their hair after a hard day at work and for that reason alone I would go back.

My recommendation to them would be to do something about where they are and sort out their presentation ASAP (both food and decor).

So if you’re in Surulere and looking for  a place to unwind, give them a try.
