Who knew there was a chicken and waffles place in Nigeria? Definitely not me. A friend told me about it and I figured trying them wouldn’t hurt.
The restaurant has a diner setting and is quite tiny, so there’s not a lot of space to eat in. The owner however told me they would be moving to a new location soon.
You would assume that as the name suggests, they specialise in just chicken and waffles but they have a couple of other things on their menu like pancakes, rice, pasta, salads etc.
I got the Micos special which includes 1 belgian waffle, two pieces of chicken and a drink. While the chicken was yummy, I thought the waffles could be better. They weren’t as fluffy as waffles should be and if I ate them with my eyes closed I would have thought they were pancakes.
I was lucky enough to meet with the owner and he told me his story and why he started his restaurant. I think it’s supposed to be Nigeria’s answer to the Chicken & Waffles restaurants you find in America.
I personally think a major issue with Nigerian restaurants is that they don’t focus on their niche and end up adding everything to their menu, but this is a complaint for another post. If Micos concentrates on their chicken and waffles brand they would probably be so much better, if not they could just change their name so we know it’s an all purpose restaurant.
In their defence, they seem to be quite popular as a couple of people trooped in before I left.
So if you’re into the American soul food sspeciality that consists of chicken and waffles, you could check them out.
Unravelling Nigeria’s verdict!
