A Taste of Thai Cuisine in Lagos
Thai Thai is a small kitchen that serves authentic thai food with their head chef coming straight from Bangkok. To keep up with their motto which is: ‘keep things fresh & tasty just like mama made it’, their ingredients are locally sourced and free of MSG (Monosodium glutamate).
Now it’s not news that we love food over here at Unravelling Nigeria and Thai Thai clearly caught wind of it and invited us to a menu tasting with a couple of other food lovers which include but are not limited to Naija Nomads, Travel With A Pen, Eat, Drink, Lagos, Social Prefect, FOMO Lagos etc.
The tasting was held at 16 by 16 which is an art gallery. Think white walls, clean lines and a feeling of fresh air. I loved the space especially the sitting arrangement which was meant to portray Bangkok dining. It reminded me of Busaba. Everything was just so colorful and had a happy feeling about it.

Skittles – Can you taste the rainbow? lol
The art gallery also has a little balcony which makes for the perfect view of Victoria Island’s skyline and ‘five cowrie creek’ which separates Victoria Island and Ikoyi.
It is no coincidence that the event was held at the gallery as the Thai Thai kitchen operates from the gallery. They do not have their own restaurant and for now function as a pick up/delivery outfit. This has also allowed them to create synergy with 16 by 16 as they cater to the events hosted by the gallery.
When we got there, the tables had already been set up with the menu and rate cards so we had an idea of what to expect.
After a brief introduction by the owners – Sanya and her brother, we were treated to our 3 course meal which included Thai favorites such as beef massaman curry, prawn pad Thai, chicken in hot basil, pineapple rice & Chicken Satay.

Food makes everyone happy.
Clockwise direction (starting from the top) – Pineapple rice, Chicken in hot basil, steamed rice, Pad Thai Prawn, Beef Massaman
My favorite hands down was the pineapple rice and the chicken in hot basil which was washed down with a cocktail.
Now while the above mentioned were my favorite, everything that was served was yummy and reminiscent of my Thai culinary adventures. I generally don’t like nuts in my food but I was able to enjoy the pad Thai prawn.
It was also a great networking opportunity as we all got to talk, learn more about our creative industries and share ideas.
It was interesting to note that the owners have lived in Nigeria all their lives as their parents moved to Nigeria over 30 something odd years ago. The 16 by 16 space is also owned by their parents hence the perfect relationship that the businesses share.
Now, while I can’t show you what our individual rate cards said of each meal, I can show you the empty plates which show we enjoyed our meals.
All smiles after a hearty meal

So will you be trying Thai Thai anytime soon? If you’ve tried it what did you think about them?
